Song of Inspiration: Have a Little Faith by John Hiatt September 29, 2011

You know, I always thought the song was directed at another person.  Thought he was asking, somewhat demanding, the person of reference to have a little faith in him.  But it occurred to me I could be wrong. Gasp!  Yes, sometimes I can be wrong.  Maybe, just maybe, the singer is having a moment with himself.  Maybe, just maybe, he is talking to himself.  I mean, we have all done it.  Standing in front of the mirror, seriously examining ourselves beyond the physical but to the emotional level.  Please tell me I am not the only one!

Sometimes an invisible, inexplicable self-imposed barrier holds us back.  A barrier that prevents us from taking a leap of faith and that causes us to run from our goals instead of toward our goals.  A barrier that for some strange reason causes us to guess and second guess our plans for our future to the point we can’t even remember our plans.  Sigh.  I am experiencing that right now and frankly I couldn’t put my finger on this thing, my kryptonite.  Then I hear the song and it hit me. (SN: Did notice how I am always getting “hit” by songs?) (more…)

Soooo, did ya miss me?  No need to answer, I read the emails and know the answer.  What can I say?  Hmmmmmm…its been a while since I put fingers to keyboard to update my blog.  (I am good at stating the obvious, huh?)  No excuse really, though I have lots of reasons.  All I can say is I am sorry and…I am baaaack!!!!  But not the quick, booty call type of stay.  No, I am back for good with regular updates to the blog.  Any delayed absence, within my control, will be disclosed prior not after the absence.  Its only fair, right?  Besides we have lots to discuss.  The goal is to update the site once a week!  You read correctly.  Once a week.  And hopefully, as I carve out time to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, :), I hope to update the blog more often.  In the meantime, feel free to email me as you have been doing to ask me questions regarding any and everything.  Song suggestions are also appreciated!

So I am sitting in the coffee shop… at the counter….in front of the window….by myself…just looking around.  First, I look around the coffee shop….at no one in particular although a few people stand out.  The elderly couple, in the corner to my left, who are softly talking to each other and sipping their drinks.  Then there is the guy, by the door, on his computer.  He looks like he may be busy typing but his mischievous smile makes me think he is on Facebook.  Then, I look through the window with the mesh drawn shade at the empty covered porch.  I notice a woman sitting at one of the tables, amongst the mini palm trees and plants.  (Do you feel like you’re here?)

To the average customer, I probably look like I am taking in the scenery or even thinking about something of great importance.  Well….the latter is true.   I am trying to figure out which stranger I can trust to watch my precious pink covered MacBook while I run to the bathroom.   Now this may not seem important to you, but it is to me.  Especially considering I am nursing a dangerously full bladder!  Dangerous enough where I am about to ask the elderly couple to watch my computer but…too late.  They get up and start working to the door.  (Sigh!)  Now I have to hope that my boo shows up before…well I am sure you get the point. Pardon the love interruption:

I am a sucker for love, especially black love.  With so many negative stereotypes, it is good to see something positive and heartfelt.  I have included below one of my favorite episodes of “Martin”.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Lyrical Snippet

Someone who will put up with the things

Loving me can bring

But still be there to see us through

Someone who would put up

With the strange and complicated things

Cause I would do the same for her too

Someone who I can be real with

Ain’t gotta be perfect

Because loving one another is all that matters

So I came across the article below and thought wow!  I couldn’t have said it better myself.  Marriage is hard work!  I don’t know from personal experience but from observation and admiration of certain marriages.   However, sadly for many women (and some men) marriage is simply something on a to do list.  To some, marriage is a task to be completed by a certain age, after one has been in a relationship for a specified period of time or the thing to do after one has achieved professional success.  But marriage is (or at least should be) the union of two people who believe in the power of love, who are committed to preserving that love knowing preservation may not be an easy task.  Marriage is…a blessing, a gift that one must be ready for in order to truly value it.  To me, the song of inspiration, “Someone” by Musiq, comes to mind when I think of marriage.  Read on and let me know if you agree!  (more…)

Song of Inspiration: The Trouble With Love Is by Kelly Clarkson October 8, 2010

It’s late evening and raining.  I am riding in the passenger seat, looking out the window at nothing in particular.  A SUV in front veers on the shoulder and splashes in a puddle of water.  A lady to the right waives to apologize after she almost changed lanes into my passenger side.  Yup, a storm is definitely brewing and people just cant handle themselves accordingly.  It’s the type of weather that makes you wish you were curled up on the couch, with a juicy medium-well T-bone on your lap, and a glass of wine within arm’s reach.

As I look at the overcast sky, the song of inspiration starts playing on the radio.  As Kelly Clarkson’s humming comes through the speakers, I think of a particular female celebrity who is under scrutiny for her relationship with a married man.  In fact, a few female celebrities come to mind.  Now this post is not dedicated to judging the celebrities or talking about the hurt their actions has caused or the multiple individuals adversely affected by their actions.  That’s another post, another song, and another day!
